In March 2026, we opened a new base in Kyoto's Nishijin district, occupying the site of a former kumihimo (braid) factory. Spanning a vast 380 square meters, the store has transitioned from THE CONTEMPORARY FIX Kyoto to a new identity: Stactile.
The grand opening is scheduled for around August or September, coinciding with the launch of our autumn/winter collections, with reception launch parties and events featuring our represented brands to follow.
Beyond the concept of "fashion first," our store has always proposed not just clothing itself, but the cultural background, philosophy, and layers of time behind it.
Japan is home to many brands that respect, inherit, and disseminate diverse cultures through the act of garment making.
At our new location, we center our curation on these Japanese brands, leveraging the unique character of Kyoto to share their value both domestically and internationally.
As for our international brands, we go beyond simple selection, reinterpreting them through the perspectives of "us" and "Kyoto" to present new contexts and possibilities.
CONCEPT
Conceived around the themes of "quiet beauty" and "deep experience," this space rethinks the value of cultural soil and thoughtful dialogue, which are becoming diluted in the increasingly tourist-driven center of Kyoto. Set apart from the city's hustle and bustle, it is a place for visitors to confront themselves and recover their sensibilities; it is not merely a place for shopping, but a space aimed at deepening the very experience provided through clothing.
The location lies just beyond a bridge historically spoken of as a symbol separating "this world" from the "next." Designed to embody a sense of time and perception distinct from everyday life, the space aims to provide a quiet sanctuary for spiritual fulfillment.
THE LOCATION
The existing building retains its history as a braid factory, with elements such as wooden trusses, earthen walls, and mushiko-mado (latticed windows) still intact. While respecting these, newly constructed parts consist solely of reinforced concrete and mortar, inserted like a foreign object to create tension. Rather than superficially performing "Kyoto-ness," we allowed the building's own memory to coexist with modernity.
The path stretching straight to the garden is a composition symbolizing hope for the future, featuring a long table and rattan chairs with the intention of hosting garden parties. As a permanent installation, it recalls a dress code, prompting a reconsideration of the meaning behind the act of choosing "what to wear" in daily life.
The land, once called "Juraku," has a historical background rich in groundwater. Well water is utilized for our shower and ice-water facilities, presenting the concept of "wellness"—encompassing both the physical and the spiritual—as an experience.
The monolithic red lacquer counter installed as a symbol of the space does not divide visitors from the staff, but rather functions as a place for equal engagement.
The second floor is equipped with pop-up, exhibition, and cafe functions, reconstructed as a space where people can stay and socialize while inheriting the memories of the region.
EXHIBITION AND INSTALLATION
Both inside and outside the store, we will host exhibitions centered on fashion but developed in collaboration with diverse fields including photography, art, furniture, and music.
As a base that reconnects clothing with culture, and space with time, this store aims to generate a new creative cycle originating from Kyoto.
