A Modern Rebellion Clad in Sacred Garments

"TOGA" was established in 1997 by designer Yasuko Furuta. The brand name is derived from the "toga," the sacred single-cloth garment worn by citizens in ancient Rome. Yet, contrary to the couture-like ring of its name, TOGA always presents a "challenge to preconceived notions." Through complex mixes of disparate materials and the fusion of conflicting tastes, a unique, sensual, yet somewhat aggressive worldview breathes within the work.

01. The Gaze of Designer Yasuko Furuta

After graduating from ESMOD Paris and working in costume design, Yasuko Furuta launched her brand. For her, clothing has been the "fastest way to become the person I want to be" since childhood, serving as an identity to prove herself when she couldn't fit into societal norms. This starting point is directly linked to the "independent, strong persona" that serves as the foundation of the brand. She designs attire not to cater to others, but for those who possess their own opinions and the resolve to stand by them.

02. Signature Details: The Resonance of Western Metal and Mixed Materials

Many would say that TOGA is synonymous with its silver "Western metal" hardware.

Elegant Strength: The technique of combining heavy metal buckles or fringe with delicate tulle or glossy satin is the hallmark of the brand.

Hybrid Reconstruction: By clashing polar opposite elements—East and West, classic and modern—the brand creates new value that transcends the existing framework of fashion.

03. The Source of Cult Popularity: A Crossroads of Art and Music

One of the reasons TOGA enjoys a cult following worldwide is its close connection to subcultures like music and art.

Borderless Collaboration: The brand constantly engages in collaborations with artists such as Tomoo Gokita and MOZYSKEY, or musicians like Jeff Mills and HAAi.

Beyond the Framework of Fashion: By incorporating live performances into their presentations, their approach of viewing fashion not merely as "garments" but as a representation of the times and a nexus of culture continues to attract a highly sensitive audience.
